One of these events was the this Irish Premier of a new documentary on Rachel Carson , who is recognised as the mother of the modern environmental movement.

We are delighted to announce that this event will now take place as part of Science Week whose theme this year is “A Prospective on Climate Change”

This screening will take place on November the 20th in the Solas Building room L108 at 7pm, entry is free and all are welcome, this event is presented in association with the ITT Wildlife Society as part of Science Week, with the support of BIM FLAG Scheme.

She set out to save a species… us.

Often called the mother of the modern environmental movement, Rachel Carson rocked the world in 1962 with her book Silent Spring, which warned the public of the impact of pesticides on the environment and unleashed an extraordinary national debate about science and safety. At the center of that firestorm stood Ms. Carson, a strong, intensely private woman who balanced her love of the natural world and passion for writing with personal strife—including a heartbreaking battle with breast cancer. This new documentary provides an illuminating and inspiring portrait of a seminal figure whose writings changed the course of history and are relevant today more than ever.

The Theme of this year’s competition is ‘Nature’ and we had some really wonderful entries from Fenit and Spa national School. Thank you all for putting your time and imagination to such good use.

The committee, Gráinne Sheppard , Lorraine Carey and Colette Nunan Kenny spent a long time deliberating over the quality entries received.

We were very lucky to have David Williamson as a neutral casting vote to make the final decisions. David is himself and artist and writer. He is a resident of Cambridge and has no prior knowledge of the children involved from either School.

All our entries plus commentary will be on display during the festival. We would like to invite 1st,2nd and 3rd prize winners to come to our Poetry reading at 10am on Sunday the 28th of April to receive their Certificates. We would also love if the Children would read their work for the audience , (if you are too shy maybe mom or dad could read it for you).
